I'm having trouble sleeping. I shake with anger during the day. I can't walk by a tv or browse a website without catching a glimpse of something that makes my blood boil and makes me weep for the future. And I don't see our pathetic leaders doing anything that gives me any real hope for accountability or stability now, or in the future. So here's a thought...
Given the politically universal anger with the bailout, has anyone considered organizing something like an Anti-Bailout Divestiture Movement, where Americans of all political affiliations could sign up and agree to remove their money from and refuse to do business in the future with any companies that have taken bailout money?
Or perhaps it could just be focused on those who took the money and spent it on bonuses, jets, parties, etc.
The anger on this issue is so universal among Americans, but the Democrat and Republican politicians just aren't getting the message, so can't the people make the first major move to let these firms know that we will not accept business as usual, or a return to the status quo.
Our elected officials refuse to truly hold these people accountable, and they are giving away our future to ensure that the bankers will still fill their coffers, and it's making me sick.
Does anyone think it could work if we set up a site with a comprehensive list of the banks that are taking the bailout money, identifying all the money they've spent lobbying Congress, how they've spent it, and list alternative firms that people could move their money to...perhaps even help them locate their local community banks.
I would do this myself, but unfortunately I have few tech skills. Is someone doing this already? If not, if we don't do SOMETHING along these lines, then why the hell should we expect anything to change. Will these firms ever truly be punished? Does anyone think that once things turn around, these same politicians who are giving away hundreds of billions will try to hold these people accountable, when by that time they're going to need to beg them for campaign money.
